A visit to this Wiltshire Wildlife Reserve was arranged with Chris Riley. He began by giving us some super coffee and then gave us a talk on the ECOLOGY of the reserve.
This lasted about 45 minutes and then Chris took us along to one of the 4 Hides. Here we were able to many of the birds he had been talking about such as the Pochard, the Dabchick, Coot,Comorant, and the Ruddy and Tufted Duck.
On the way there Chris found a Bloody Nosed Beetle, which did not perform its trick of spitting out a red fluid from its mouth. Used as a protection from birds. It is a flightless beetle.
Finally we had a view of the NestCam installed in a bird box that is housing a Great Tit. It did not appear.
21 members of various Salisbury U3As came on this grey morning.
