PRESS RELEASE
November 2003
Spire U3A

The Spire U3A meeting on Monday November 10th at the Memorial Hall Harnham was so well attended that extra seats had to be hastily put out before the lecture could begin.

The speaker was Joanna Read, Artistic Director of Salisbury Playhouse. First she explained her role in selecting a programme and making it varied so that it will appeal to all tastes. We were then given an interesting insight into the numbers of people employed at the theatre and how a play is produced. This includes choosing the actors and making the props as well as details of how rehearsals are conducted. There were a number of regular playgoers in the audience but everyone was made aware of what a little gem we have in Salisbury.

The Science and Technology Group, organised by Spire and Sarum U3A's, have an interesting lecture this month about the way the digital camera works and how it compares with a film camera.

Various notices were given out and, with Christmas festivities on the horizon, the next meeting on December 8th will be the Christmas Party with the usual good entertainment, including exhibition of work from the groups and a buffet lunch.
