PRESS RELEASE
March 2004
Spire U3A
At the March meeting members were reminded that the AGM in April would be on the first Monday in the month, April 5th as the second Monday fell on Easter weekend this year. Leaders of the various groups would be mounting small exhibitions of their courses where appropriate or talking about the way they covered their subject.  This would be a help to new members as well as others to see the range of Groups available.  News of a number of new groups soon to be started was also announced.

Spire is breaking new ground with the setting up of a Health Care Research Group, led by Eric Gould.  At the inaugural meeting it was discussed how best to carry out research into two areas already identified, MRSA (the superbug) and poor communication with patients.  The group is also preparing a survey of Salisbury U3A members to identify the main areas of patient health care concern. Plans for the new wing for the local Hospital were shown.  The group welcomed members of the other two U3As and told of arrangements for future meetings.

Thanks go to Hugh Thomas for stepping in at the last moment to give an excellent talk about the staff employed in the big houses in the late 1890's and into the 20th century, especially the roll held by the Butler, Housekeeper and the Junior Footman.

The next meeting is on April 5th at Harnham Memorial Hall.
