On June 25th 2009 a small group of Spire U3A members visited the Winterbourne villages. We were ably guided by Maureen Atkinson. Maureen is the secretary of the Bourne Valley Historic Society.

We started by the Winterbourne Arms previously the Tything Manand before that the New Inn. She showed us in Gaters Lane the site of St Edwards Church and later the site of another church St Michael's by Manor Farm. Both of these churches were robbed of material in the 19th century and now reside in the new church of St Michael & All Angels, Winterboune Earls and in various other wall around the villages.  For instance we saw 2 piscinae from the old Church of St. Edward's embedded in the garden wall at The Elms, Winterbourne Dauntsey.

Copies of the medieval wall paintings from St. Edward's Church are on loan to Wimborne Minster
for 3 months as part of an exhibition on medieval wall paintings.
