Award winning NHS specialist to give Health Group talk

Winner of the 2006 Salisbury District Hospital award for patient/patient involvement is to speak at the first meeting in 2007 of the Joint Salisbury U3As Health Care Research Group.

She is Jenny Burns of the Speech and Language Therapy Department of Salisbury District Hospital and she will talk about the way she used a range of views and experiences to develop speech and language services for stroke patients at the hospital.

The talk will be at 2.0 p.m. on Friday, February 16 at the Harnham Memorial Hall.

The other meetings of the Group during 2007 will be on April 20, July 6 and October 19. All will be at 2.0 p.m. at Harnham Memorial Hall and all members of the three Salisbury U3As are welcome to attend. Speakers for these meetings will be arranged  later so as to reflect matters of public interest at the time.

The end of 2006 saw the completion of the Group’s research into the Salisbury District Hospital’s Pharmacy Department. Part of the research included a survey involving interviewing more than 120 patients.

One of the high points of 2006 was the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust demonstrating its appreciation of the work of Group by inviting the Group’s leader and his wife to be presented to Princess Anne when she opened the new wing at Salisbury District Hospital in September.
